Middle School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach - East Harlem

About the position

The Middle School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach at East Harlem DREAM is a part-time, seasonal role focused on supporting the development and management of the middle school competitive basketball team. The coach will facilitate practices, manage logistics, and ensure the safety and positive behavior of the athletes while promoting the organization's mission and values. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in basketball and experience working with youth.

Responsibilities

• Support the facilitation of 1-3 practices per week.
• Assist with logistics around athlete arrival and departure.
• Drive engagement and recruitment of athletes onto the team.
• Manage roster and support with game strategy on game day.
• Supervise and manage team and individual behavior at all times using positive discipline techniques.
• Ensure that youth are physically safe around supervision and transportation when necessary.
• Follow all safety protocols put in place by the organization.
• Take attendance at all practices and games.
• Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, umpires, and spectators.
• Encourage positive youth behaviors and promote DREAM's mission, values, and organizational policies.

Requirements

• CPR Certification
• First Aid Certification
• 5 years of sports coaching experience
• Experience working with middle school-aged students
• High school diploma or GED
• Organizational skills
• Communication skills
• Understanding of basketball as a player and coach

Nice-to-haves

• 2+ years of assistant coaching experience
• Previous experience playing basketball competitively at the high school and/or college level
