About the position

The Middle School Instructional Aide Library position at Douglas School District is designed to support the library's operations and assist students and staff in accessing library resources. The role involves a variety of clerical and instructional tasks aimed at maintaining an organized and welcoming library environment while promoting literacy and learning among students.

Responsibilities

  • Circulates materials to students and teachers.
  • Maintains library circulation records, per school need.
  • Maintains and updates the library inventory and completes an end-of-the-year inventory report.
  • Checks returned materials for repair needs.
  • Repairs books as needed and appropriate.
  • Shelves materials; straightens and reads shelves daily, maintaining a clean attractive physical setting.
  • Circulates equipment to building staff and provides instruction for use.
  • Inventories and maintains equipment, performing minor repairs.
  • Sets up and/or operates video and sound equipment for building staff.
  • Processes magazines.
  • Manages Accelerated Reader program, if needed in respective school.
  • Performs clerical duties associated with the position.
  • Provides assistance to students and staff in the selection and location of material and library resources.
  • Under the direction of certified personnel, provides library and information skills instruction to students.
  • Facilitates the selection and ordering of new materials under the direction of certified personnel.
  • Facilitates the preview and evaluation of new media material.
  • Communicates with staff and students in regards to library activities and promotes library programs.
  • Supervises students using the library, as well as student and/or volunteer help.
  • Collects, records, and manages money for lost or damaged books.
  • Participates in staff development activities.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Library Services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Keyboarding and general clerical skills.
  • Computer and technological skills.
  • Ability to utilize independent judgment.
  • Ability to be self-directed and self-motivated.
  • Basic knowledge of library procedures, including media processing.
