About the position
The Teacher position at Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA) is a full-time role responsible for delivering online education to students. This role emphasizes individualized instruction, student engagement, and collaboration with families to ensure academic success. Teachers are expected to manage their own professional home office while providing support and guidance to students and parents, monitoring progress, and preparing students for standardized tests.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of students' academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in students' achievement.
- Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests.
- Conduct live synchronous teaching for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Provide asynchronous support, including composing emails, planning course objectives, and preparing learning plans based on data.
- Collaborate with colleagues regarding instruction, resources, and interventions related to student needs.
- Augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate tools under guidance from the school administrative team.
- Submit grades and required student work, ensuring academic honesty and integrity, and maintain a grade book.
- Make placement and promotion decisions by generating reports regarding student progress and alerting administrators to concerns.
Requirements
- State certification as a teacher.
- Experience in online education or virtual teaching environments.
- Strong communication skills to engage with students and families effectively.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a home office setting.
