About the position
The Middle School Probationary (tenure track) ENL teacher is responsible for developing and implementing lesson plans that cater to the language needs of English Language Learners (ELLs) in alignment with New York State Learning Standards. This role emphasizes creating an inclusive classroom environment that supports language acquisition and cultural diversity while collaborating with other educators to enhance instructional strategies for ELLs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson and unit plans that align with New York State Learning Standards and address the language needs of ELLs.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and instructional materials to support language development and content understanding.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students at varying levels of English proficiency.
- Assess students' English language proficiency and academic progress using standardized assessments and formative evaluations.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student performance and progress.
- Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and school personnel regarding student progress.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports language acquisition and cultural diversity.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and other support personnel to develop and implement instructional strategies that meet the needs of ELLs.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ENL education and language acquisition.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for ELLs within the school community.
Requirements
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification in teaching ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages).
- Experience working with middle school students and/or English Language Learners is preferred.
