About the position
The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for providing effective instruction to 8th-grade students, ensuring they are academically and socially prepared for future educational and career opportunities. The teacher will create a supportive learning environment, differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, and engage with parents and the community to foster a positive educational experience. This role requires collaboration with special education staff and participation in professional development to enhance teaching strategies.
Responsibilities
- Provide effective instruction in various academic areas using the Marzano Rubric.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
- Teach the required curriculum and administer common assessments.
- Maintain and monitor ongoing student progress effectively.
- Provide instruction and interventions in behavioral areas.
- Develop detailed lesson plans for each subject area.
- Plan and provide appropriate educational supplemental activities for all children, including those with special needs.
- Utilize best classroom management practices to create a conducive learning environment.
- Collaborate with special education staff to provide individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of behavior management and academic goals.
- Engage with parents through regular communication regarding student progress.
- Participate in parent meetings, including IEPs and Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Contribute to community service and global citizenship goals.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
- Current appropriate Michigan teaching certification.
- Demonstrated understanding of how children learn and ability to motivate students.
- Ability to work in a diverse environment and communicate effectively in English.
