About the position

The Middle School Science Teacher at Anchorage School District is responsible for creating a flexible and supportive educational environment that fosters personal growth and learning among students. The teacher will provide instruction tailored to the appropriate grade level, establish effective rapport with students, parents, and staff, and motivate students to develop essential skills and knowledge. This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate and involves collaboration with the site principal for evaluation and support.

Responsibilities

  • Create a flexible and supportive education program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
  • Provide instruction at an appropriate grade level while establishing effective rapport with students, parents, and staff members.
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for a solid educational foundation.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, work time, and assessment.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Teach students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils.
  • Facilitate, monitor, and assess student learning, evaluating pupils' academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records, and preparing progress reports.
  • Create and maintain a learning environment in which all students are actively engaged and contributing members.

Requirements

  • A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.
  • Evidence of content knowledge shown by a posted degree or minor in the content area, passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores, or a certificate endorsement in the content area.
