About the position

The Middle School Science Teacher at the Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School (APR) is responsible for delivering high-quality science education to students in grades 5-12. This role emphasizes creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that fosters student growth, critical thinking, and engagement with the content. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues, engage with families, and participate in professional development to enhance their teaching practices and contribute to the school's mission of empowering diverse learners.

Responsibilities

  • Leading a classroom that affirms students' brilliance, curiosity, and intellect.
  • Modeling passion and expertise for the content matter.
  • Designing and implementing rigorous, standards-aligned courses and curricular units.
  • Creating a strong culture of achievement that promotes student growth.
  • Providing continuous feedback to students on their learning targets.
  • Collaborating with co-teachers and specialists to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Leveraging data for targeted and individualized student interventions.
  • Developing students' understanding of core values and social-emotional capacity through advisory structures.
  • Providing regular tutoring and office hour support for students.
  • Mentoring 10-15 students through advisory and family meetings.
  • Building strong relationships with families through regular communication.
  • Maintaining accurate student grades and progress reports.
  • Participating in professional development and reflective practices.
  • Performing necessary support duties to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Maintaining regular attendance according to school policies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Certification or licensure to teach in Massachusetts or passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) within the first year.
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement or completion within the first year.
  • Expertise and enthusiasm for the content area(s).
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience in a charter or district school setting serving a similar demographic is preferred.
