About the position

The Middle School Social Studies Teacher at New Life Academy of Excellence is responsible for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment for students. This role involves planning and delivering lessons based on the Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum, assessing student progress, and adapting instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs. The teacher will also collaborate with colleagues and engage with the community to enhance the educational experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan appropriate learning experiences based on the district AKS curriculum.
  • Demonstrate command of the subject being taught.
  • Develop and prioritize instructional objectives based on district AKS curriculum.
  • Analyze student work and assessments to determine instructional needs.
  • Prepare written lesson plans to support instructional objectives.
  • Evaluate, select, and modify resources and activities for effective instruction.
  • Communicate specific learning objectives to students and link lesson content to prior knowledge.
  • Organize content for presentation in a logical sequence.
  • Utilize effective instructional strategies and methods for student learning.
  • Provide formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and achievement.
  • Organize the learning environment to maximize student engagement.
  • Maintain behavior conducive to learning and manage classroom dynamics.
  • Participate in professional growth and learning activities.
  • Maintain professional responsibilities and act as a role model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a PSC approved college or university.
  • Meets Georgia certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GCPS AKS curriculum and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction to enhance student learning.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
