About the position

The Weld County School District Re-8 is seeking a dedicated and passionate Middle School Spanish Teacher for Fort Lupton Middle School, with a start date of August 15, 2024. This position offers a competitive salary range of $47,500 to $102,482, depending on the candidate's experience and education. The successful applicant will be responsible for designing and implementing engaging lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and learning objectives, focusing on developing students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish. The teacher will provide instruction across various proficiency levels, adapting teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, including potentially offering native Spanish literacy classes. In addition to language instruction, the teacher will utilize a variety of interactive teaching methods, such as communicative approaches and technology integration, to foster active participation among students. Differentiated instruction will be a key component of the role, ensuring that all students, regardless of their learning styles or abilities, have opportunities for success. The teacher will assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback to guide learning and growth. The position also involves establishing a positive classroom environment, maintaining effective classroom management strategies, and communicating regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations. Collaboration with colleagues and participation in professional development activities will be essential to align curriculum and share best practices. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a K-12 or Secondary Spanish endorsement, and a preference for bilingual or biliterate candidates in Spanish and English. Experience in middle school education and working with diverse populations is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement engaging and culturally relevant lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and learning objectives.
  • Develop instructional materials, activities, and assessments to support student learning in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
  • Teach Spanish language skills, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and conversation.
  • Provide instruction in language proficiency levels ranging from beginner to advanced, adapting teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, such as communicative approaches, cooperative learning, technology integration, and experiential learning activities.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate students with varying learning styles, abilities, and language backgrounds.
  • Assess student progress and proficiency in Spanish language skills through formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to guide their learning and growth.
  • Establish a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to participate.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, assignments, and classroom expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to align curriculum and share best practices.
  • Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in language education and pedagogy.

Requirements

  • Minimum B.A. or B.S. in Education with K-12 or Secondary Spanish endorsement/emphasis.
  • Hold or be able to obtain Colorado Teachers' License in Spanish from Colorado Department of Education.
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish and English preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure student academic success/experience in Middle School Spanish is preferred.
  • Computer and Technology skills preferred.
  • Able to work as a team member; prefer experience in middle school teaming and AVID.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
