About the position

The Middle School Special Education Teacher at Stride, Inc. is responsible for delivering personalized education to students in a virtual environment. This role focuses on maximizing the special education experience by building relationships with students, families, and learning coaches, ensuring that all students progress successfully through the program. The teacher will conduct live teaching sessions, support students asynchronously, and collaborate with various teams to enhance instructional delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of students' academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in students' achievement.
  • Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests.
  • Conduct live synchronous teaching for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Provide asynchronous support, including composing emails, planning course objectives, and preparing learning plans based on data-driven needs.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and national teams regarding instruction, resources, and interventions.
  • Be open to coaching from administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Augment course content under guidance from the principal and coach using appropriate tools.
  • Submit grades and maintain a grade book, ensuring academic honesty and integrity.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with students and learning coaches.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment.
  • Assist students and learning coaches with setting up their learning environment and basic computer troubleshooting.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure all students are progressing successfully through the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • 0-1 year of related professional experience.
  • State certification as a special education teacher.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in virtual teaching environments.
  • Familiarity with K12's learning management system.
