About the position

The Middle School Science Teacher at Lowell Community Charter Public School is responsible for delivering a quality instructional program that meets state standards and caters to the diverse learning needs of students. The role emphasizes collaboration with colleagues, building strong relationships with students and families, and fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The teacher will engage in curriculum development, implement effective teaching practices, and assess student progress to promote individual achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver a quality instructional program based on state standards and curriculum.
  • Teach content and skills in science to students of varying abilities and interests.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on projects and participate in meetings.
  • Develop curriculum, instructional materials, assessment tools, and lesson plans tailored to student needs.
  • Provide clear and focused instruction using state standards and subject matter content.
  • Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
  • Foster independent thinking skills and creative problem-solving among students.
  • Build strong relationships with students and recognize individual learning needs.
  • Use multiple data sources to assess student progress and modify instruction accordingly.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents to foster student success.
  • Manage a safe and positive learning environment to promote effective student behavior.
  • Lead Morning Meeting/Advisory meetings/Restorative Circles several times a week.
  • Plan and deliver enrichment blocks and the Leader in Me curriculum weekly.

Requirements

  • Valid MA State certification with appropriate endorsement(s).
  • Successful and recent experience as a school teacher in the subject area preferred.
  • Background in second language acquisition preferred.
  • Experience working with students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures preferred.
