About the position

As a MIG Sheet Metal Welder with PeopleReady Skilled Trades, you will support a mechanical construction company at a hospital in Houston, TX. This role involves welding 18 Gauge stainless steel sheet metal for duct installation. It is a temporary position that offers weekly pay and health insurance benefits, along with opportunities for recognition and career growth through the Respect the Craft program.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble sheet metal products and components according to specifications, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
  • Laying out and measuring pieces to specifications, cutting and shaping material, and assembling and joining the pieces.
  • Performing several short welds at strategic locations to secure the position of the thin sheet metal.
  • Grinding and polishing rough surfaces or the seams and joints between two sheets of metals.
  • Assisting with hanging and installing commercial duct & risers for HVAC systems in a hospital.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues or defects in sheet metal products or installations and make necessary repairs or adjustments.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including properly storing tools and equipment, to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries while working with sheet metal.

Requirements

  • Current MIG welding certification is required.
  • OSHA-10 Construction Certification is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience required in MIG welding on sheet metal for ductwork.
  • Ability to fabricate and MIG weld on 18 Gauge stainless steel sheet metal for ductwork.
  • Ability to assist in the installation of the ductwork as needed.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel and walk for extended periods throughout the day with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Prior experience working from heights and in tight spaces required.
  • Position does require a drug screen.
  • Position does require a background check.
