About the position

The Migrant Case Manager for Refugee Services at the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) plays a crucial role in providing initial resettlement support and social services to migrants, particularly focusing on Cuban and Haitian communities. This position involves assessing client needs, planning action steps, and making referrals to ensure successful integration into the community. The role emphasizes advocacy, cultural orientation, and comprehensive support during the critical 90-day resettlement period.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial resettlement support and social services to migrants, focusing on Cuban/Haitian communities.
  • Perform initial arrival screenings and intakes for new clients.
  • Provide ongoing support and advocacy during the initial 90-day resettlement period.
  • Connect clients to other refugee case managers for ongoing services such as employment and education.
  • Conduct home visits, assist with ESL/school registration, and provide cultural orientations.
  • Organize transportation orientation for clients and facilitate participation in Refugee Health Promotion events.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and case-related paperwork for federal auditing purposes.
  • Create and update client files, recording case notes for all communications.
  • Make necessary referrals for services to facilitate community integration.
  • Provide transportation to clients as needed to access services.
  • Attend weekly supervision consultations with the manager and complete yearly evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (social work, teaching, anthropology, psychology, international studies, women's studies, public health).
  • At least 2 years of experience in a client-facing employment position or 1 year working with vulnerable populations.
  • Familiarity with Cuban or Haitian culture preferred.
  • Proficiency in French Creole or Spanish is preferred.
  • Superior organizational, communication, and prioritization skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with staff and service providers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with client databases.
  • Must have a reliable car, valid U.S. driver's license, and valid auto insurance.
  • Ability to physically assist with apartment setup and moving household items.
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional after-hours services.
