About the position

The Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) - Adult position at Magellan Health Services is designed to provide essential counseling and consultation services to military service members and their families at Fort Novosel, Alabama. The role involves delivering non-medical, short-term counseling, conducting health and wellness presentations, and collaborating with military command to address behavioral health issues. The counselor will be actively engaged within the military community, ensuring accessibility of services and responding to urgent requests as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling to eligible service members and their families.
  • Conduct training and health and wellness presentations, and participate in health fairs and other base activities.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily to ensure accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources and military populations.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the Points of Contact (POC).
  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
  • Communicate regularly with Regional Supervisors and participate in supervision and training activities.
  • Participate in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs as directed by the customer and/or Magellan.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health-related field.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license (LPC, LMHC, LMFT, LCSW) from a recognized authority.
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate-level competencies in technology and software, including Microsoft Suite and video-conferencing platforms.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with military members and families.
  • Understanding and empathy for service members and their families, with the ability to develop trusting relationships.
  • Ability to traverse various physical environments on military installations.
