About the position

The Military-Connected Resource Specialist at Southern Utah University (SUU) plays a vital role in supporting military-connected students through the Veteran Resource & Support Center. This position is dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and ensuring the successful graduation of military-connected students by providing a range of programs and services tailored to their educational goals. The specialist will be responsible for various front desk operations, including answering inbound phone calls, directing students both in-person and over the phone, and managing email communications. They will assist students with inquiries regarding veteran benefits available on and off campus, provide information about veteran activities, and guide students to other support services available at the university. In addition to front desk duties, the specialist will engage in outreach efforts within the community and participate in on-campus events aimed at promoting resources for military-connected students. They will perform basic data analysis, generate reports, and assist in the development and distribution of accurate publications related to the Veteran Affairs Office, including brochures, flyers, posters, and web content. Compliance with regulatory, information security, and confidentiality standards in accordance with federal, state, and university policies is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivering resources for military-connected students on campus.
  • Facilitate education benefits and provide recruiting and retention services.
  • Manage and handle the center's front desk operations, including answering emails and phone calls.
  • Maintain student files and send periodic communications with relevant information.
  • Assist with delivering student orientations, workshops, and training.
  • Maintain the center's handbook, policies, and digital files.
  • Assist with scheduling and reserving rooms for center functions.
  • Run reports, filter and sort data, and disseminate to appropriate offices.
  • Collaborate with other university departments and state and federal agencies on programs that support the center's mission.

Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED education.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with Veteran Education Benefits and various chapter types.

Nice-to-haves

  • Veteran, current U.S Military member, or dependent strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Banner, the University's student and financial management software.
  • Previous higher education experience.
