About the position

The Military Education Benefit Specialist I at Southern New Hampshire University is responsible for processing military education benefits for the Student Financial Service's military education benefit team. This technical role involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies while accurately certifying, validating, and paying military education benefits to students. The position is remote-friendly and requires effective communication with the Department of Veterans Affairs and collaboration with various university departments to support military students' educational funding needs.

Responsibilities

  • Process military education benefits for the Student Financial Service's military education benefit team.
  • Review course information to validate enrollment and billing to the Department of Veterans Affairs for payment of Federal Funds.
  • Report student suspensions, dismissals, and conferrals to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Communicate daily with representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Credit and Collection Specialists to research and resolve outstanding military account balances.
  • Reconcile military payments to student accounts and ensure record integrity.
  • Maintain quality of student records in Enrollment Manager and Student Information Systems (SIS) - Ellucian, Banner.
  • Ensure deadlines for internal and external reporting are strictly followed.
  • Work collaboratively with Admission Counselors and students to ensure all applicable documents are received for Military Education Benefits.
  • Assist the Military Education Benefit Processing team with projects, reports, and other requests.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and 1+ years' experience in military benefit certifications, military student service, invoicing, financial aid, or bursar functions, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with Banner.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of VA Education Benefits and Federal Military Tuition Assistance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Familiarity with military education programs and benefits.
