About the position

The Military Fellowship - Principal Engineer - Data Science role at Verizon is designed for military personnel participating in the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program. This position involves leading a high-profile team within the Artificial Intelligence & Data (AI&D) Organization, focusing on analytics and strategic thinking to drive business decisions across Verizon's networks. The role requires strategic leadership in developing AI roadmaps, managing data science projects, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency through advanced analytics and machine learning solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to build tools, analyses, and insights that inform and enable data visualization for business decisions.
  • Create the Artificial Intelligence roadmap for GN&T Planning and Engineering and implement use cases.
  • Partner with internal Data Science center and vendor partners to drive data science projects.
  • Manage a pipeline of AI use cases from ideation to implementation.
  • Act as a thought leader in shaping and delivering strategy for data governance and AI/ML.
  • Design, develop, implement, and oversee analytical processes and solutions using machine learning and AI methods.
  • Perform exploratory and targeted data analyses and present results to senior management.
  • Conduct geospatial analyses and create visualizations to respond to business requests.
  • Develop analytical views of data using BI tools such as Tableau and PowerBI.
  • Establish ongoing spend tracking of Network OPEX and CAPEX against budgets for financial forecasting.

Requirements

  • Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in applying statistical methods to data sets to solve business problems.
  • Experience with Python, Spark, and SQL for data manipulation and insights.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, analytics, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience with Big Data architecture and mining insights from various data sources.
  • Knowledge of ETL tools and experience with large data sets for optimization opportunities.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse and data lake technologies such as Teradata, Hadoop, and No SQL.
