About the position

The Military/Veteran Peer Support Specialist I at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) plays a crucial role in providing person-centered, culturally competent support to individuals seeking assistance through the Call Center. This position involves leading shifts, assisting other peer support specialists, and responding to crisis calls, ensuring that veterans and military personnel receive the necessary support and referrals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned shifts and act as the contact point for all aspects of the shift.
  • Assist Peer Support Specialist IIs & IIIs as needed.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for situations on the call center floor.
  • Collaborate with the clinician on duty for crisis calls.
  • Keep Peer Support Specialist IIs & IIIs informed of call center changes or new workflows.
  • Communicate scheduling needs and call outs to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of related experience, such as working for the Vets4Warriors program as a Peer Support Specialist II or III.
  • At least seven years of active duty service or equivalent experience with service members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior lead experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant social or health care field preferred.
