The Peer Support Specialist III at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care provides culturally competent and consumer-friendly services to individuals seeking support through the Call Center. This role involves engaging with individuals in an empathetic manner, utilizing personal experiences to build rapport, and responding to service requests with appropriate referrals. The position is crucial in offering peer support to veterans and military personnel, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance and guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer-friendly services, engaging individuals in an empathic manner.
  • Develops and maintains peer-to-peer relationships to identify emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral changes.
  • Promptly responds to all service requests via telephone, chat, and text.
  • Utilizes personal experiences to connect and establish rapport with individuals served.
  • Responds professionally to referrals, inquiries, and contacts with outside agencies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of active duty service or 30 days in a combat zone, or four years in the National Guard.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer for recording services and basic office functions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in behavioral health or peer support services.
  • Knowledge of military culture and veteran services.
