About the position

The Mill Diagnostic Mechanic I at Freeport-McMoRan is a highly skilled role focused on the diagnostic, maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment and processes within the Milling plant. This position emphasizes safety and technical proficiency, requiring the mechanic to work on various machinery including mills, conveyors, and hydraulic systems. The role also involves training and mentoring other employees, ensuring a collaborative and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment in the Milling plant.
• Conduct component diagnostics, replacements, and repairs on various machinery including crushers and ball mills.
• Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance to identify potential failures.
• Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
• Perform welding tasks using Stick and Tig methods.
• Train and mentor other employees in mechanical skills and safety procedures.
• Operate equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes as required.
• Act as a Fill-in Supervisor when necessary.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Completion of academic and practical competencies required for the role.
• Ability to achieve a 35% score on a written assessment based on technical skills and safety knowledge.
• Proficient basic welding skills.
• Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions in English.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English regarding job assignments and safety standards.
• Ability to read and use schematics and blueprints.
• Strong time management skills.
