About the position

The Mining Engineer position at Freeport-McMoRan involves planning and performing engineering duties related to mining development and production. The role focuses on optimizing mining methods, improving operational efficiencies, and ensuring safety while supporting both short and long-range production goals. This position allows for remote work up to 100% of the time, with occasional travel to corporate offices or site locations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mining plans based on geological information to support production goals.
  • Monitor mining methods and equipment to improve performance.
  • Assist in developing and managing mine ventilation.
  • Identify actions to improve safety, operational efficiencies, and control production costs.
  • Participate in engineering feasibility studies to define mining methods and equipment selection.
  • Ensure maximum productivity and extraction rates by optimizing mining methods and procedures.
  • Recommend actions to eliminate production problems and improve safety and efficiency.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed ore reserve estimates.
  • Collaborate with geologists in exploration and engineering phases of developments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining or Geological Engineering and three years of related experience, or a Master's degree in Mining or Geological Engineering and two years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of Mining Engineering.
  • Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skilled in managing engineering projects.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize occupational hazards and follow safety practices.
  • Knowledge of at least one underground mining method.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of ventilation, mine planning, scheduling, ground support, surveying, and mining crew operations.
