About the position

The Mine Operations Drill & Project Coordinator at Capstone Mining is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the activities of the rotary drill crew and the blasting contractor crew, ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently. This position involves managing the supply of rotary drill tooling, consumables, and the associated costs of all Drill & Blast activities. The Drill & Project Coordinator will provide guidance and leadership to both crew members and contractors, ensuring that the drill program is effective and cost-efficient. In this role, the coordinator will collaborate closely with various internal departments, including Mine Operations supervisors, Tech Services, and Maintenance teams, to ensure that drill pad preparations are completed and that all drilling needs are met. Communication is key, as the coordinator will report on drill consumables, coordinate with dispatch and pit supervisors for proper clearing, and develop safety and action plans in conjunction with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) teams. Additionally, the coordinator will participate in weekly and monthly mine planning meetings and work with external groups such as regulators and blast contractors to schedule daily blasts and manage resource needs. The responsibilities of the Drill & Project Coordinator also include conducting morning shift meetings to assess drilling and blasting needs, categorizing and logging operator drill logs, reconciling drill delay codes, and planning drill steel rotations. The coordinator will utilize Minestar reports to address production variances and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Furthermore, the role involves managing drill and blast contractors, overseeing tire improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and procedures. The coordinator will also be responsible for pit dewatering management and other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and account for drill consumables.
  • Ensure compliance with Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures for all employees and contractors.
  • Conduct morning shift meetings with outgoing pit supervisors to determine drilling and blasting needs for the shift.
  • Coordinate with oncoming shift supervisors to meet drilling and blasting needs.
  • Conduct morning blast meetings with contractors to address issues with blast patterns.
  • Communicate with Tech Services regarding potential changes to blasting/drilling needs for the shift.
  • Coordinate with pit supervisors/dispatchers to determine blast clearing and guard locations for blasting.
  • Categorize and log all operator drill logs utilizing MineStar and other data gathering mechanisms.
  • Reconcile with dispatchers on all drill delay codes.
  • Plan and schedule drill steel rotations and replacements, developing a tracker for this process.
  • Create notifications and purchase requests as needed.
  • Utilize Minestar reports to resolve production variances and drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify and implement projects to create a more efficient operation.
  • Manage drill and blast contractors and other contractors working for mine operations.
  • Manage tire improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate Capstone Copper's values in all actions and decisions.
  • Perform pit dewatering management and other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Understanding of drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence.
  • Detailed knowledge of theories and practices in drilling and blasting.
  • Familiarity with working in a union environment.
  • Ability to communicate and work with Mine Technical Services Superintendent, Short Term Planner, Mine Scheduler, and Drill Blast Engineer.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with crew, providing positive and constructive feedback based on performance.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a mine operations supervisory role.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ESAP.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently.
  • Working knowledge of drill operation and maintenance.
