About the position

The Mine Shift Supervisor at Kinross Gold Corporation is responsible for providing complex technical support to Mine Operations, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures while supervising shift crew activities. The role focuses on maximizing mine efficiencies in a safety-oriented workplace and achieving production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute work activities to meet production schedules and mining plans.
  • Monitor adherence to plans and initiates corrective actions related to operations, safety, and environmental affairs.
  • Coordinate work of crew with service groups and other production units.
  • Work with all crew members in all facets of mine training, safety, general work practices, and standard operating procedures.
  • Discuss maintenance priorities with the Mobile Maintenance group so priorities can be accomplished.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate production records and employee files (i.e. daily production and evaluations, time cards, etc.).
  • Monitor work areas on an ongoing basis to assure a safe and cost efficient operation.
  • Identify training needs and schedule as appropriate, keeping in mind safety, and production goals.
  • Answer queries, resolve issues, and handle requests related to the mine's operations, including problem solving and judgment.
  • Ensures implementation of new practices.
  • Maintain a daily activity log.
  • Ensure crews receive sufficient training to ensure safety and production goals are met.
  • Coordinate efforts with the General Mine Foreman, staff personnel, and Mobile Maintenance personnel to ensure that long-range goals are accomplished within the parameters of company and departmental policies.
  • Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Must be production orientated.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions, and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct them.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Two to five years as a production equipment operator and lead person required.
  • Eight to ten years of related work experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • General knowledge of mining methods and operating practices.
  • Good working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Must be a production oriented, self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
