About the position

The Mineralogist position at Nevada Gold Mines involves working within a collaborative and dynamic team to support the Carlin Process operations. The role focuses on identifying mineralogy in various samples, understanding ore characteristics, and providing analytical support to improve processing behavior. The Mineralogist will also engage in developing mineral analysis procedures and ensuring compliance with laboratory practices, all while promoting a safe and sustainable work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Identify mineralogy of process, open pit, and exploration samples.
  • Understand refractory and double refractory gold ore characteristics and their relation to processing.
  • Provide timely plant support to understand and improve process behavior related to mineralogy.
  • Investigate new ore bodies and understand their response to pressure oxidation and roasting.
  • Perform sample preparation for various mineral characterization projects.
  • Develop mineral analysis procedures and techniques using specific hardware and software.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with laboratory practices.
  • Communicate sample preparation, analytical methodology, and results to Senior Mineralogist.
  • Perform complex analysis and provide meaningful results to clients.
  • Write formal reports with results and recommendations for technical staff.
  • Maintain laboratory and associated equipment in a clean and safe manner.
  • Liaise with exploration, operations, environmental, and process personnel.
  • Promote and contribute to safety, environmental, and social responsibilities culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Metallurgical Engineering, or equivalent related degree required.
  • Substantial experience with and knowledge of computer operation required.
  • Ability to work with common database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs (Excel and MS Word) required.
  • Experience in creating project work orders and organizing work in a laboratory setting preferred.
  • Experience with Labware preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced mineralogical techniques and analysis required.
  • Mineral identification experience highly preferred.
  • Direct experience with optical, XRD, SEM-EDS, and automated mineralogy systems highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with chemicals and laboratory procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize a heavy workload required.
  • Ability to work in an operations-focused team environment required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
  • Proven safety record and ability to support work group in achieving safety, environmental, and production goals required.
