The Mining Engineer position at a leading manufacturing company in Winchester, Virginia, is a permanent role that requires a dedicated professional to support the quarry operation in all technical aspects of mining and geological engineering. This position is not remote or hybrid; candidates must be willing to work 100% on-site in a manufacturing plant. The role offers a competitive compensation package, with a base salary ranging from $100,000 to $120,000, plus a 15% annual target bonus and relocation assistance. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and are expected to work from 8 AM to 4 PM. The Mining Engineer will be responsible for short and medium-term mine planning and sequencing, which includes ground control, surveying, and creating and updating AutoCAD drawings. The role also involves mobile equipment performance tracking, rock quality control, and optimization to ensure the required material quality while maximizing rock reserves. The engineer will utilize KPI tracking and database management to develop efficient and low-cost mining practices, suggesting productivity improvements across all aspects of quarry operations. In addition, the Mining Engineer will oversee mine design improvements aimed at enhancing safety, fleet efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities include tracking and improving drilling and blasting program performance, implementing engineering projects as per quarry strategic mine plans, and managing quarry improvement projects from concept to completion. The engineer will also support day-to-day quarry contractor management and participate in various quarry improvement groups and initiatives. The position requires maintaining communication with peers and subordinates, ensuring compliance with MSHA documentation, and providing relief supervision when necessary. The Mining Engineer will play a crucial role in achieving product quality commitments, cost commitments, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements for quarry mining and reclamation. This role demands a holistic understanding of quarry operations, focusing on safety, environmental compliance, and efficient mining practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support the quarry operation in all technical aspects of mining and geological engineering.
  • Conduct short and medium-term mine planning and sequencing, including ground control and surveying.
  • Create and update AutoCAD drawings and improvement plans.
  • Track mobile equipment performance and develop improvement plans.
  • Optimize rock quality control from the mine to the prehomo, maximizing rock reserves.
  • Utilize KPI tracking and database management to implement efficient mining practices.
  • Suggest and implement productivity improvements in quarry operations.
  • Improve mine design for safety, fleet efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Track and improve drilling and blasting program performance for safety and compliance.
  • Implement engineering projects as specified by quarry strategic mine plans.
  • Plan and sequence surface mining operations around historical underground workings.
  • Operate mining technology, including drones and survey devices.
  • Track and optimize water control and related projects.
  • Research and implement cutting-edge mining tools and methods for efficiency.
  • Manage quarry improvement projects from concept to completion.
  • Support day-to-day quarry contractor management.
  • Participate in quarry improvement groups and initiatives.
  • Assist the Quarry Manager in preparing annual budgets based on production rates and improvement needs.
  • Follow established mine plans and request changes as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with peers and subordinates.
  • Work with quarry personnel to achieve optimization goals.
  • Maintain MSHA required documentation.
  • Provide relief supervision when needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Mining or Geological Engineering preferred; a BS in engineering or other technical field with mining experience accepted.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in mining.
  • Proven experience with mine planning using computerized systems, including GPS and AutoCAD.
  • Technical experience with drilling and blasting, mine planning, fleet tracking, and rock quality control.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong planning skills and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Computer literacy with software programs including Excel, Access, SAP, and AutoCAD.
  • Flexible team player capable of handling adverse situations.
