About the position

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a qualified Mining Project Engineer to support our Georgia Aggregates team. This position will be based in our Duluth, GA office. Heidelberg Materials provides the materials to build our future, focusing on sustainability and digital advancements beyond just cement, aggregates, and ready-mixed concrete. The company operates more than 450 locations with approximately 9,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada. In this role, you will be responsible for developing conceptual and final plans, estimates, and schedules for capital projects. You will direct and coordinate the engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up of assigned capital projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. This includes managing outside engineering, fabrication, and construction contractors, as well as preparing regular progress and cost reports throughout the project lifecycle. Your focus will be on meeting internal customer expectations, emphasizing functional effectiveness, long-term reliability, and ease of maintenance. Additionally, you will support and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives, provide engineering and construction services to Operations for enhancing operational efficiencies and process flows, and maintain and track schedules for material stripping crews. You will also coordinate core and overburden material drilling, develop land plans including long-term overburden strategies, and create project bid materials. Managing material inventory tracking for all plants will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual and final plans, estimates, and schedules for capital projects.
  • Direct and coordinate the engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up of assigned capital projects.
  • Manage outside engineering, fabrication, and construction contractors.
  • Prepare regular and timely progress and cost reports during the project.
  • Manage the process of project completion, acceptance, and closure.
  • Meet internal customer expectations with a focus on functional effectiveness, long-term reliability, and ease of maintenance.
  • Support and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide engineering and construction services to Operations for improving operational efficiencies and process flows.
  • Maintain and track schedule for material stripping crew.
  • Coordinate core and overburden material drilling.
  • Develop land plans including long-term overburden strategies and land option analysis.
  • Develop and coordinate implementation of short and long-term mine plans.
  • Operational support with management systems, budgeting, etc.
  • Create project bid materials.
  • Manage material inventory tracking for all plants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Mining Engineering preferred, but will consider other disciplines with equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of crushed stone and sand/gravel processing plants and equipment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, AggFlow, and Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, Power Point, and Project.
  • Excellent personnel skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external customers and contractors both verbally and in writing.
  • Highly motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision in a multi-task, dynamic, team environment.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Region with occasional extended project assignments.
