About the position

The Minister to Children is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive children's ministry aimed at addressing the spiritual, emotional, physical, mental, and social needs of children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, along with their families and ministry leaders. This role involves planning and executing various programs and events that foster spiritual growth and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, recruits, resources, trains, and encourages volunteers who work with children and in various children's programs.
  • Resources, supports, and provides training and enrichment for parents and families of children.
  • Provides pastoral care support for families with children.
  • Counsels children and parents about salvation and models an active lifestyle of personal witnessing and ministry.
  • Leads the planning and implementation of all children's programming, including Sunday School and special events.
  • Oversees the security of the Children's Ministry, including background checks on volunteers and employees.
  • Works with the Preschool Ministry to support children as they transition to Kindergarten.
  • Collaborates with the Middle School Ministry to provide an effective transition of 5th graders to middle school.
  • Supports the work of the church by collaborating with other staff and serving in church-wide events.

Requirements

  • A personal sense of calling from God to vocational Christian ministry.
  • Agrees with Forest Hills Baptist Church's statement of faith and can identify closely with the church's vision, mission, and values.
  • A mature Christian who demonstrates the Fruit of the Spirit and is committed to spiritual disciplines such as Bible reading and prayer.
  • Ability to identify, equip, and lead a team of volunteers.
  • Ability to collaborate, cooperate, and function well in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in leading childhood Christian education, discipleship, and ministry is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Master's Degree in an appropriate degree program preferred from a seminary supported by the Southern Baptist Convention.
