About the position

The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a skilled Missile Systems Analyst to join our team. This role is pivotal in identifying, characterizing, and assessing global missile developments, proliferation, and procurement trends. The Missile Systems Analyst will provide timely and accurate assessments of adversary missile programs, strategic threats, and weapons-related science and technology developments to Defense, Service, and Interagency audiences. The successful candidate will contribute to various Defense Intelligence Enterprise deliverables, including foundational assessments, warning reports, technical briefings, and other analytic documents. In this position, the analyst will collaborate with the Intelligence Community, the Defense Department, national laboratories, and academia to address missile-related threat issues. The Missile Analyst will also provide guidance to less experienced staff, review the work of others, and contribute authoritatively to multi-functional analytic teams. It is essential for the analyst to maintain a current understanding of relevant missile-related technologies, trends, and threats. The role requires the ability to articulate official government analytic positions during customer engagements and represent Defense Intelligence Enterprise analytic units as directed. This position is contingent upon contract award with an anticipated start date in November 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, characterize, and assess global missile developments, proliferation, and procurement trends.
  • Provide timely and accurate assessments of adversary missile programs and strategic threats.
  • Contribute to Defense Intelligence Enterprise deliverables, including foundational assessments and technical briefings.
  • Collaborate with the Intelligence Community, Defense Department, national labs, and academia on missile-related threat issues.
  • Guide less experienced staff and review their work.
  • Maintain currency in understanding missile-related technologies, trends, and threats.
  • Articulate official government analytic positions during customer engagements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in intelligence analysis, including using multi-INT databases for analytic assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of missile programs, trends, and technologies.
  • Practical understanding of technical requirements to improve missile lethality.
  • Familiarity with global missile defense-related programs and technologies.
  • Understanding of global technology control, arms-control, and nonproliferation efforts associated with missiles.
  • Experience in characterizing and assessing technical improvements related to advanced weapons systems.
  • Familiarity with established Intelligence Community directives and standards.
  • Ability to work effectively within or lead a team and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in conveying complex analyses.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree or technical training applicable to aerospace or WMD problem set.
  • Familiarity with state nuclear, biological, and/or chemical programs.
  • Understanding of the Defense Intelligence Enterprise and DIA.
  • Experience in devising and communicating methodological approaches to complex problems.
  • Familiarity with missile and S&T analytic centers within the DOD and IC.
