About the position

The Mission Engineering Manager at Scale will lead a team of engineers in delivering advanced AI capabilities to Federal government customers. This role combines technical product planning, coding, and team management, requiring a deep understanding of the public sector and compliance requirements. The manager will ensure successful outcomes for customers by providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of 6-8 engineers in mission software engineering.
• Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
• Drive engineering productivity and provide technical leadership.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute customer requirements.
• Navigate complex public sector compliance requirements to deliver successful outcomes.
• Design and implement software solutions for Federal customers using cloud-native AI infrastructure.
• Develop distributed systems, data-intensive applications, and machine learning infrastructure.
• Contribute to the platform roadmap and product strategy for Scale AI's Federal business.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI clearance is required.
• 4+ years of full-time engineering experience post-graduation.
• 2+ years of prior engineering management experience.
• Extensive experience in software development.
• Experience in Department of Defense and/or Intelligence Community software development.
• Strong engineering background with a passion for AI technologies.

Nice-to-haves

• Deep technical knowledge of Software Development and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with AI platforms and technologies, including generative models and LLMs.
• Previous experience in government or government-facing technology roles.
• Experience with cloud-native technologies, full stack development, data engineering, and MLOps infrastructure.
