About the position

The Senior Principal Research Engineer position at RTX Corporation focuses on developing new capabilities for mission engineering within the aerospace and defense sectors. This role involves integrating technical systems, demonstrating innovative mission engineering capabilities, and collaborating with various engineering disciplines to optimize design spaces and evaluate operational scenarios. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in mission planning and operations analysis to enhance existing tools and create novel approaches for mission engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Integration of technical systems and operations.
  • Demonstrating new mission engineering capabilities to internal and external customers.
  • Seeding new mission engineering research topics and identifying internal and external funding opportunities.
  • Working closely with RTX business unit counterparts to demonstrate and transition new methods for mission engineering and operations.
  • Exploration and optimization methods for large design spaces across aerospace and defense system domains.
  • Advanced AI approaches to playing what-if scenarios and evaluating risks and uncertainties.
  • Collaboration across many engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as criminal justice, security, engineering, mathematics, or computer science.
  • 10+ years of post-undergraduate experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as an Operations Research Analyst or performing mission planning or operations analysis at multiple levels.
  • Knowledge of wargaming and Operations Analysis (OA) simulation tools to support mission engineering in military theaters.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of military Command & Control (C2) structure and resources at different C2 levels.
  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with experience in developing a research agenda and presenting research results.
  • Experience developing OA simulation tools or other simulation software.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external partners in the Mission Engineering domain.
  • Experience developing externally funded programs in the domain of Mission Engineering.
