The Machine Learning Engineer at USAA plays a crucial role in partnering with data scientists to design and develop machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions. This position requires a blend of programming and data-focused skills to implement and optimize models that enable prediction and analysis, ultimately delivering critical business value. The role involves participating in the full life cycle of data engineering, which includes analysis, solution design, data pipeline engineering, testing, deployment, scheduling, and production support, all while receiving guidance from senior team members. In this position, the engineer will assist in implementing technical solutions for data reporting and analytic systems, as well as designing and writing test scripts to verify data integrity and application functionality. Familiarity with IT Change and Release Management best practices is essential, as is the ability to deploy data pipeline code with assistance from senior team members. The engineer will actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including daily standups, iteration planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives, while developing an intermediate familiarity with data management best practices through training and documentation review. Additionally, the Machine Learning Engineer will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of business products and processes, assisting senior team members in breaking down business features into technical stories and approaches. Continuous learning about new and emerging technologies in the data engineering space is encouraged, as is the application of these learnings in current and future projects. The engineer will also ensure that risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
