About the position
The Medical Technologist/MLS/CLS position involves performing examinations of materials or specimens from the human body to aid in diagnosing, preventing, or treating diseases. This role requires timely and accurate laboratory procedures in accordance with hospital policies and departmental procedures, while functioning under the supervision of laboratory management. The position demands multitasking abilities and flexibility to float between different laboratory areas as needed, ensuring quality specimen collection and test results.
Responsibilities
- Perform examinations of materials or specimens from the human body.
- Conduct laboratory procedures accurately and timely according to established policies.
- Float to different areas of the laboratory as needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served.
- Handle clerical duties including faxing, answering phones, and managing the tube system.
- Register and order reference labs from other healthcare facilities as needed.
- Assure specimen collection, quality, and timely test results.
- Perform venipuncture and specimen pick-up when required.
- Label specimens and manage Blood Bank armbands as requested.
- Communicate effectively with patients and visitors.
Requirements
- Valid Medical Technologist certification from ASCP, AMT, ABB, or ABOR required.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biological Science, or Chemical Science from a NAACLS approved program or certified institution preferred.
- Application for or possession of State of Tennessee License preferred.
