About The Position

The position requires demonstrating adequate knowledge of the hospital, laboratory, and referral facilities computer systems. Proficiency in patient specimen collection and test order functions is essential, along with correct venipuncture, capillary, urine, and drug screen collection techniques. The role involves collecting all specimens efficiently and timely, performing instrument maintenance and/or quality control (testing and documentation as necessary), and complying with all applicable laboratory safety policies and procedures. The candidate will need to function in all areas of the laboratory, including Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Immunology. Additionally, handling non-technical, phlebotomy, and clerical duties as needed is part of the job.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an Associate's Degree in an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program for certification as an MLT by ASCP, AMT, AAB or an equivalent certifying agency
  • Certification by ASCP, AMT or other nationally recognized certification agency
  • New graduates must pass one of the national certification exams within 18 months of hire
  • Competency assessment and continuing education in laboratory sciences required throughout employment
