About the position

The MMBWG Victim Assistance Specialist is responsible for providing direct services to individuals and families affected by violence against Black women and girls. This role involves community engagement, coordination with law enforcement and service providers, and the development of educational programs to raise awareness about MMBWG violence. The specialist will also assist in training agency staff and other professionals on related issues, ensuring a comprehensive approach to victim support and prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to individuals and families affected by MMBWG violence.
  • Support community-level responses to MMBWG violence, awareness, and prevention.
  • Communicate effectively with service providers within Minnesota's Black Communities and law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide victim services and resources to affected individuals.
  • Develop and provide training on MMBWG violence to agency staff and other professionals.
  • Educate the general community on issues relating to MMBWG violence.
  • Coordinate services with other agencies to prevent MMBWG violence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in human/victim's services, social work, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Experience working in victim services and advocacy, with a focus on cultural competency and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Experience developing educational materials and conducting trainings for community awareness.
  • Experience providing counseling or advocacy to victims in a social service capacity.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice process and trauma-informed victim issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of root causes of violence experienced by Black women and girls.
  • Knowledge of racial disparities, inmate-partner violence, and human trafficking prevention.
  • Professional experience with crime victim issues.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally-resonate evaluation practices.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
