About the position

The Mobile Dental Clinic Operator (Operator) plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation of the Mobile Dental Clinic, which provides essential dental services to children in the community. This part-time position requires the Operator to drive the 39-foot mobile dental clinic to various scheduled locations within the designated service area, typically operating Monday through Friday, although specific days may vary based on program needs. The Operator is responsible for the set-up and take-down of the vehicle at each site, ensuring that all necessary equipment is in place and operational for the dental staff to provide services. In addition to driving, the Operator must perform various operational tasks, including cleaning and organizing the clinic, managing supplies, and ensuring the vehicle is maintained in good working order. This includes tasks such as purchasing gas, checking fire safety equipment, and maintaining the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the mobile clinic. The Operator will also be responsible for communicating effectively with school staff, dental staff, students, and parents, providing information about procedures and answering any questions that may arise. The role also encompasses an office component, where the Operator will file and organize paperwork, distribute dental care kits, and manage inventory. The Operator must demonstrate good problem-solving skills, particularly in diagnosing mechanical issues with the mobile clinic and knowing when to contact for repairs. This position is vital for the smooth operation of the Mobile Dental Clinic and requires a commitment to providing quality service to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate the 39-foot mobile dental clinic to and from locations Monday through Friday.
  • Remove steps from storage and secure in place at the beginning of daily operations and remove at completion of daily operations (up to 50 pounds).
  • Operate DVD player and show age-appropriate movies during clinic's hours of operations.
  • Clean and organize the inside and outside of the clinic, purchase and pump gas (fill when ½ tank), dump and fill water tank, mail weekly spore checks, and check fire detectors are operational, and fire extinguishers are current.
  • Communicate with school staff, dental staff, students, parents, and GKAS staff with details, procedures and answer questions.
  • Have the ability to walk students to and from the mobile dental clinic.
  • Exercise good time management to assist with the flow of students, as well as monitor them as they wait for service.
  • Assist dental staff when necessary to locate supplies and/or clean stations in order to stay on schedule.
  • File, collect, and organize forms and paperwork. Review paperwork for accuracy and have dental staff correct if necessary.
  • Distribute dental care kits.
  • Check, order, and stock inventory.
  • Complete purchase orders of all purchases and have signed by supervisor.
  • Exercise good problem-solving skills and have the ability to diagnose mechanical failures and know who to contact for repairs.
  • Maintain interior cleanliness of mobile dental clinic, as well schedule oil changes and other maintenance.
  • Perform and carry out other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or possess a GED; a CDL operator's license is preferred.
  • Clean driving record (no DUIs or moving violations within the past three years).
  • Hearing and speaking ability that allows for effective oral and written communication.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the community.
  • Ability to work effectively within a cooperative setting with a diverse group.
  • Tactful and punctual; take initiative; use good judgment; and ability to work satisfactorily with all types of people.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of the agency and its clients.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Fulfill all regulatory requirements for employees of Child Welfare Agencies as prescribed in Illinois Administrative Rule and Procedure, including successful completion of the criminal background investigation and clearance from the Illinois CANTS and Iowa Registry.

Benefits
