The Mobile Equipment Operator I position at Gerdau in Midlothian, Texas, is a critical role within the Production & Operations area, primarily focused on the operation of various mobile equipment. This position is essential for transporting Melt Shop and Refractory materials, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. The operator will be responsible for operating equipment such as loaders, man-lifts, forklifts, and flatbed trucks, which are vital for lifting and transporting materials within the facility. The role requires a commitment to safety and adherence to all PPE requirements and safety guidelines while performing tasks. In addition to operating mobile equipment, the operator will perform daily preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, which includes tasks such as fueling, cleaning, and checking or adding fluids as necessary. It is crucial for the operator to ensure that loads are within the safe load capacity of each piece of equipment to prevent accidents and ensure safety in the workplace. The operator will also maintain material levels in feed hoppers or bins and communicate effectively with the Melt Shop Team and AMT operations to monitor alloy levels. The position also involves assisting Melt Shop Operations and the Refractory area with crusher operations and cleaning as needed. Operators are expected to visually inspect materials for non-conformities and communicate any problems to responsible personnel promptly. The role requires teamwork and the ability to work with limited supervision, maintaining a clean and orderly work area and equipment. The operator will engage in GBS tools and methodology and assist coworkers as necessary, performing all other duties as assigned.
