About the position

This position plans, coordinates and conducts the forensic examination and analysis of digital, electronic and mobile device data to include but not limited to: hard drives, thumb drives, memory cards, and cellular devices. The role involves executing highly complex digital forensics requiring the use of specialized technical equipment and software for the purpose of discovering and analyzing available, deleted or 'hidden' information. The candidate will examine evidence to determine the best strategy for exploitation, consult with other subject matter experts, safeguard evidence for other examinations, and document examination results in the WEAT database. Additionally, the position includes participating in quality control activities that involve instrument maintenance and calibration.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates and conducts the forensic examination and analysis of digital, electronic and mobile device data.
  • Assists with the execution of highly complex digital forensics using specialized technical equipment and software.
  • Examines evidence to determine the best strategy for exploitation, consulting with subject matter experts as needed.
  • Safeguards evidence for other examinations and reviews evidence to determine the proper approach and sequence of examinations.
  • Disassembles components or devices as needed to gain access to digital data.
  • Searches written or digital media and extracts targeted data for storage and future processing or analysis.
  • Processes and analyzes extracted data to isolate information of specific interest.
  • Documents examination results/findings in the WEAT database and prepares final written reports.
  • Performs administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and worksheets.
  • Participates in quality control activities including instrument maintenance and calibration.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree preferred and 4-6 years of directly related experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience in conducting forensic examinations on digital media.
  • Demonstrated experience with forensics tools such as Cellbrite, EnCase, Axiom, XRY, Forensic Toolkit (FTK), and Xways.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to the Forensics and Intelligence communities.
  • Understanding of steganography and encryption detection and analysis.
  • Understanding of managing complex large data set analysis.
  • Must be able to successfully pass all medical requirements for deployment.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Candidate must be capable of deep dives into electronic media including cell phones, hard drives, drones, SD cards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in relevant exploitation tools such as GFCE, GFCA, CFCE, ACE, EnCE, CCO, CPA and CCME are desired.
