About the position

The Penske Mobile Technician II plays a crucial role in the repair and diagnosis of major vehicle components, working under the direction of the PFM Asset Supervisor. This position requires proficiency in performing preventive maintenance and diagnosing various systems with minimal supervision. The technician will be responsible for ensuring the safety and functionality of vehicles, maintaining compliance with company and regulatory standards, and serving as a primary contact for customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the repair and diagnosis of major components including engines, power trains, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and more.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for trade-ins and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair orders.
  • Maintain on-site work area appearance, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper operation.
  • Use hand tools and power tools for repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Order, receive, and charge out parts, maintaining control of parts inventory.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/Technical certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required.
  • Current CDL license with air brake certification required, willingness to acquire CDL if not held.
  • DOT medical card or ability to obtain prior to commencing work.
  • Basic computer skills required for data entry into maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred.
  • Ability to read a map and utilize mapping tools (e.g. Waze).
  • Self-starter who can work with minimal direct oversight.
