About the position

The Penske Mobile Technician II position is an entry-level role focused on assisting in the repair and diagnosis of major vehicle components. The technician will perform preventive maintenance and repair tasks with minimal supervision, ensuring the proper functioning of various systems including clutches, electrical systems, and HVAC. This role is primarily field-based, requiring the technician to work on-site rather than in a Penske facility, and involves direct interaction with customers to address their needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the repair and diagnosis of major vehicle components under the direction of the PFM Asset Supervisor.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services and diagnose issues with clutches, PTO systems, electrical systems, hydraulic/air brake systems, and HVAC systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in repairing engines, power trains, electrical systems, and brake systems.
  • Conduct mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for trade-ins and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Maintain on-site work area appearance, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or ensure proper functioning.
  • Use hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Manage tire and wheel inspections and inventory.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational/Technical certification preferred.
  • Specialized training in vehicle component repair preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required.
  • Current CDL license with air brake certification required, or willingness to acquire one.
  • Ability to read a map and operate a 26,000 non-articulated vehicle safely.
  • Basic computer skills required for data entry into maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with DOT regulations and safety practices.
  • Familiarity with mapping tools such as Waze.
