About the position

The Mobile Trailer Technician is responsible for performing basic maintenance services on tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, and power equipment at customer sites or rail yards using a mobile service truck. This role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and may involve multiple shifts, including nights and weekends. The technician will follow safety protocols and complete work orders accurately while maintaining the service truck in good condition.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as tire replacements, brake adjustments, and electrical diagnostics under supervision.
  • Follow all safety requirements while working at customer sites or rail yards.
  • Operate the assigned service truck professionally and keep it clean and well-stocked.
  • Accurately complete work orders and document damage to company equipment.
  • Understand and demonstrate the use of cutting torch and welding equipment for minor repairs.
  • Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs to ensure they are water-tight.
  • Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections under supervision.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years old for equipment over 10,000 lbs.
  • Possess a clean motor vehicle record per company guidelines.
  • Ability to supply basic tools or purchase through the toolbox purchase program.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with up to 1 year of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair.
  • DOT certified in FHWA Inspections and Air Brakes.
  • Welding certification and forklift certification.
  • EPA section 608 certification and refrigeration license.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently or as part of a team.
