About the position

The OnDemand Driver position is part of the Transportation department and reports to the Director of Transportation. The role involves safely operating transit vehicles in revenue service according to the State of Louisiana traffic regulations, transporting passengers over pre-determined city routes and/or daily manifest according to a required time schedule. The driver will collect and count passenger fares, verify valid passes and identification cards, conduct ridership surveys, and report any issues related to bus stops and shelters. Additionally, the driver will perform pre and post vehicle inspections and manage delays due to accidents, street closures, and passenger misconduct incidents. The position requires adherence to company policies and procedures, including applicable ADA requirements, and enforcement of company policies regulating passenger conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate transit vehicles in revenue service according to traffic regulations.
  • Transport passengers over pre-determined city routes and/or daily manifest.
  • Collect and count passenger fares and verify valid passes and identification cards.
  • Conduct ridership surveys and report bus stop and bus shelter problems.
  • Perform pre and post vehicle inspections.
  • Report delays due to accidents, street closures, and passenger misconduct incidents.
  • Operate transit vehicle related equipment including wheelchair lifts and two-way radio systems.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures and applicable ADA requirements.
  • Enforce company policies regulating passenger conduct.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Chauffeur's Driver's License.
  • Availability to work varying shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pass physical agility tests with no limitations on upper or lower back.
  • Ability to walk, kneel, bend, push, and/or pull to complete moderate to heavy lifting.
  • No more than two moving violations in the past five years.
  • No convictions of serious traffic violations in the past five years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the Shreveport-Bossier area.
  • Previous driving experience as a Paratransit Driver.
  • Skilled in safe driving practices and good public relations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations and understand others' views.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within given parameters.
