About the position
The Mock Trial Assistant Advisor position at Marple Newtown High School is a part-time role aimed at supporting high school students in their participation in the PA Bar Association/Young Lawyers Division Mock Trial Competition. The advisor will guide students in understanding the legal system and developing critical skills such as public speaking and legal advocacy through simulated courtroom experiences. This role involves mentoring students, supervising practices and competitions, and maintaining relationships with local legal professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assist in facilitating students' understanding of the legal system to present both plaintiff and defense sides in court.
- Supervise students during practices and competitions.
- Schedule activities for practices and competitions.
- Attend and supervise students at scheduled events.
- Assist in the selection process for Mock Trial teams.
- Maintain positive relationships with local judges, attorneys, and other school coaches to build a Mock Trial culture.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the club.
Requirements
- Valid PA teaching certificate.
- Knowledge of the legal and court systems.
- Ability to guide and mentor students in critical thinking, public speaking, and legal advocacy.
