About the position

The Model-Based Systems Engineer at Cruz Associates, Inc. will provide expert-level support in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) for various Army and Special Operations aircraft. This role involves applying systems engineering principles throughout the entire lifecycle of aircraft systems, including design, development, testing, and airworthiness. The engineer will focus on integrating software with hardware, ensuring compliance with airworthiness qualifications, and supporting the Army's Future Vertical Lift (FVL) Digital Engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Executes full life cycle system engineering development.
  • Analyzes stakeholder needs to develop functional and non-functional requirements for system and subsystem acquisitions.
  • Reviews and recommends architectural approaches and design constraints to support TAPO business objectives and a modular open systems approach (MOSA).
  • Performs functional allocation to identify required subsystem and component behavior and interrelationships.
  • Produces system and subsystem specifications that support acquisition objectives and stakeholder requirements.
  • Documents system architecture in SysML models and ensures accuracy.
  • Confirms system and product specifications by designing test methods and procedures.
  • Assures system and product quality by evaluating testing methods and capabilities.
  • Performs system engineering design evaluations.
  • Conducts complex analysis, interface evaluations, logical allocation, testing, and requirements traceability.
  • Performs planning, definition, and verification of system safety requirements and safety analysis artifacts.
  • Conducts research for system-related information as directed.
  • Participates in design reviews, technical meetings, and briefings.
  • Identifies potential risks and appropriate courses of action for technical issues or changing user requirements.
  • Coordinates MBSE and DE strategy for the FLRAA program with the program office.
  • Aligns engineering service providers and subsystem vendors with DE practices of the FLRAA program.
  • Coordinates airworthiness activities including the Airworthiness Qualification Plan and testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Engineering or an associated technical field for Levels 1 and 2; Master's for Level 3.
  • Secret or Interim Secret security clearance required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant systems engineering experience for Level 1; 8 years for Level 2; 10 years for Level 3.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in MBSE, developing SysML models using Cameo/NoMagic.
  • Minimum of 2 years as technical lead, project lead, or subject matter expert for MBSE projects.
  • Minimum of 1 year as Cameo Teamwork Cloud administrator.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an aviation program management office.
  • Working knowledge of FVL Architecture Framework is highly desired.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with DoD 5000 Series Defense Acquisition System.
  • Knowledge of Army Rotorcraft Safety and Airworthiness processes and standards is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with Army Rotorcraft MOSA strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of FVL Architecture Framework.
