About the position

The Host Person at Salt & Ivy, part of MGM Resorts International, plays a crucial role in creating memorable experiences for guests. This position is primarily responsible for greeting and seating guests, ensuring they feel welcomed and valued from the moment they arrive. The Host Person will assist Food Servers, Bus Persons, and Food Service Runners by providing essential information related to guest contact and table assignments. The role requires a friendly demeanor and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all guests receive prompt and attentive service. In this position, the Host Person will monitor guests who are seated, responding immediately to their needs and requests. They will assist in managing reservations, answering phone calls in a hospitable manner, and confirming with management regarding the accommodation of large parties. The Host Person will also check on the billing status of casino, room, bill back, and coupon and comp numbers to facilitate the closing of checks. Additionally, they will direct Food Servers, Bus Persons, and Food Service Runners in their work procedures, ensuring that all tasks related to billing and guest requests are handled efficiently. The Host Person will maintain complete knowledge of the menu and proper food handling presentation and service. They will be responsible for preparing opening reports, managing the floor plan, and ensuring that menus are printed and updated nightly. The role also involves maintaining the hostess stand and podium, ensuring that all supplies are stocked and that the area is clean and organized. The Host Person will communicate any guest complaints to the Manager, ensuring that all issues are addressed promptly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and seat guests in a gracious manner.
  • Distribute business among Food Servers equally and fairly.
  • Monitor seated guests and respond to their needs immediately.
  • Assist in accepting reservations and answering phone calls hospitably.
  • Check billing status of casino, room, bill back, and coupon and comp numbers.
  • Direct Food Servers, Bus Persons, and Food Service Runners in their work procedures.
  • Assist Restaurant Manager in controlling intermission scheduling for dining room staff.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of the entire menu and proper food handling presentation.
  • Prepare opening reports, floor plan, and check menus nightly.
  • Maintain proper supplies for the hostess stand and podium.
  • Clean and maintain all food and beverage menus.
  • Advise Manager of any guest complaints.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Age 21+.
  • Experience as a host in an upscale restaurant or in a customer service-related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6 months to 2 years of experience as a host in an upscale restaurant or any customer service-related field.
