About the position

The Model Maker Technician will work collaboratively within the prototyping team at Newell Brands' R&D technology center, focusing on product development, testing, and compliance. This role involves creating prototype models that enhance customer experiences, utilizing various tools and technologies in a fast-paced environment. The technician will contribute ideas and solutions to improve manufacturing processes and will be responsible for maintaining equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Produce varying levels of models from basic to complex working models.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and facilities, ensuring general housekeeping is upheld.
  • Work from CAD files, sketches, and verbal directions to fabricate machine parts and metal brackets.
  • Design and execute sequences for building and fabricating necessary parts.
  • Provide input to designers and engineers on part configurations and manufacturing solutions.
  • Mentor and train with experienced model makers to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Submit expense reports promptly and adhere to purchasing policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping machines and software is a plus.
  • Machining background with milling machines and lathes is required.
  • Manual tube bending experience and familiarity with benders is necessary.
  • Experience with MIG welding; TIG welding is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and PDF drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of materials such as metal tubing, plastics, and urethanes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with finishing, assembly, priming, and painting.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or Pro E is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, including trigonometry.
