About the position

The Model Risk Oversight team at Schwab is seeking a quantitative analyst to conduct model validations and contribute to the oversight of financial models. This manager-level individual contributor role involves assessing model usage, documentation, conceptual soundness, data integrity, and the control environment. The analyst will collaborate with model owners and present findings through formal reports and presentations to senior management and oversight agencies. The position emphasizes strong quantitative skills and the ability to challenge model implementations and drive resolutions in model risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct model validations following guidelines based on SR 11-7.
  • Assess model usage, documentation, conceptual soundness, data integrity, and the control environment.
  • Prepare and present formal model validation reports to model owners and senior management.
  • Evaluate model performance monitoring reports and conduct model revalidation and annual reviews.
  • Collaborate with model owners to identify and resolve gaps in model risk management.
  • Coordinate with other teams assisting in the validation report.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline (economics, statistics, mathematics, physics, data science, computer science).
  • 1-3 years of experience in quantitative modeling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing, implementing, or executing quantitative or predictive models using statistical programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Matlab).
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages (e.g., C#, Java).
  • Familiarity with SDLC concepts and related systems (e.g., JIRA, Bamboo, Zephyr, Bitbucket, Remedy).
  • Experience in model risk management.
  • Knowledge of model governance processes and regulatory requirements for large US banks.
