About the position

The Modelling & Simulation (Algorithm) Software Engineer will be part of a small team in San Diego, CA, focused on developing innovative software and algorithms for modeling and simulation (M&S) applications. This role involves creating algorithms that process mission data, supporting space programs, and contributing to the design and prototyping of next-generation software for future space missions. The position offers an intellectually stimulating environment that fosters technical growth and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop portions of the M&S framework with a primary focus on algorithm development for mission data processing.
  • Build test scripts for developed algorithms and support their transfer to program development teams for implementation.
  • Work from requirements and algorithm designs to develop software modules for M&S frameworks and tools.
  • Perform testing of developed software modules and maintain configuration of source code and documentation.
  • Implement all aspects of the software development lifecycle including design, coding, and automated testing.
  • Utilize Agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket/Git for work management and team collaboration.
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software source code using modern scripting languages and tools.
  • Provide technical documentation and participate in design, code, and software peer reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Math, or Physics from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum two years of experience programming in scripting languages such as Matlab and Python.
  • Minimum two semesters of data structures/algorithms coursework.
  • Experience transforming algorithm concepts and designs into functioning software.
  • Experience debugging software and troubleshooting software-related issues.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required).
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite in San Diego, California.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant technology or engineering field.
  • Experience on Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with software version control tools (i.e., Git, GitLab, etc.).
  • Experience in adaptive signal processing and applied mathematics.
  • Prior internship experience.
