About the position

The Mohs Surgery Histotechnologist plays a crucial role in preparing slides of human tissue to assist in diagnosing and monitoring diseases. This position requires adherence to laboratory safety standards, proficiency in histology techniques, and the ability to maintain quality control in laboratory processes. The histotechnologist will also be responsible for training others and ensuring compliance with operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates compliance in laboratory safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and operation of LIS software, computer programs and equipment.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance and troubleshoots malfunctions on equipment and instrumentation.
  • Completes, records, and monitors quality control and quality assurance documentation.
  • Reviews and understands standard operating procedures and completes continued education activities.
  • Assists with inventory control.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in complex histology duties including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, coverslipping, microscopy, and staining techniques.
  • Identifies cell and tissue structures, microorganisms, pigments, and antibody-antigen interactions.
  • Monitors quality control of control tissue, reagent lots, and staining procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in laboratory validation processes.
  • Meets or exceeds departmental productivity standards in embedding and microtomy areas.
  • Trains others to perform histology responsibilities when assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • AS or BS degree in a relevant field.
  • HT or HTL ASCP Certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in anatomic pathology preferred.
  • Prior Mohs experience preferred.
