About the position

The Mohs Technician at the University of California San Francisco is responsible for performing specialized laboratory procedures related to the Mohs surgical technique. This role involves working under the supervision of the Mohs Surgeon and the Mohs Lab Supervisor to ensure high-quality slide preparation and analysis for skin cancer treatment. The technician will utilize advanced methods in frozen tissue processing, including grossing, mapping, and staining, to achieve 100% margin control for tumor assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grossing and mapping of frozen tissue samples.
  • Prepare and cut en face sections for margin control.
  • Utilize special stains and immunohistochemistry techniques on frozen sections.
  • Label and store slides properly according to safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and UCSF policies in the lab.
  • Assist with patient rooming and intake for procedures as needed.
  • Schedule Mohs procedures and manage workflow effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or histotechnician certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Mohs Technician.
  • Advanced experience in producing high-quality slides for tumor assessment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for workflow and equipment issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with multiple UCSF sites.
  • Familiarity with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) guidelines.
