About the position

The Research & Development Engineer for Fiber & Paper plays a pivotal role in advancing the company's capabilities in the Consumer Materials Science sector, specifically focusing on fiber and paper products. This position is centered around the development and commercialization of innovative fiber-based materials and applications that are essential for the company's growth trajectory. The engineer will collaborate with various business partners and functions to ensure that new products meet market demands and align with the company's strategic objectives. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for overseeing the entire new product development process, from ideation through to commercialization. This includes managing projects effectively, providing technical expertise, and offering operational or technical support as needed. The engineer will also be expected to coordinate efforts across different teams, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed throughout the development process. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical knowledge and project management skills, enabling them to identify innovative technologies and successfully convert concepts into market-ready products. They will need to demonstrate a strong drive to meet deadlines, establish clear priorities, and hold themselves and their teams accountable for achieving results. This position requires a creative and agile thinker who can navigate the complexities of product development in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and commercialize new fiber-based materials and applications.
  • Manage new product development projects from concept to commercialization.
  • Provide technical expertise and operational support as needed.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with various business partners and functions.
  • Conduct design of experiments to develop concepts through experimentation.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Fiber, Pulp, and Paper industries.
  • Solid understanding of the fiber forming process and related materials.
  • Experience in molded fiber and paper forming processes.
  • Proven track record in leading new product development projects.
  • Experience in pilot-plant and high-volume manufacturing environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coating and printing processes.
  • Master's degree in Pulp and Paper, Chemical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Six Sigma certification or other continuous improvement certifications.
